August TBR

This month I am reading four ebooks and four physical books.

1) The Raging Ones

2) Murder Trending

“@doctorfusionbebop: Some 17 y. o. chick named Dee Guerrera was just sent to Alcatraz 2.0 for killing her stepsister. So, how long do you think she’ll last? @morrisdavis72195: I hope she meets justice! She’ll get what’s coming to her! BWAHAHA! @EltonJohnForevzz: Me? I think Dee’s innocent. And I hope she can survive. WELCOME TO THE NEAR FUTURE, where good and honest citizens can enjoy watching the executions of society’s most infamous convicted felons, streaming live on The Postman app from the suburbanized prison island Alcatraz 2.0. When seventeen-year-old Dee Guerrera wakes up in a haze, lying on the ground of a dimly lit warehouse, she realizes she’s about to be the next victim of the app. Knowing hardened criminals are getting a taste of their own medicine in this place is one thing, but Dee refuses to roll over and die for a heinous crime she didn’t commit. Can Dee and her newly formed posse, the Death Row Breakfast Club, prove she’s innocent before she ends up wrongfully murdered for the world to see? Or will The Postman’s cast of executioners kill them off one by one?”

I got an eARC of this book as well and it sounds so interesting. It reminds me of an episode of Black Mirror.

3) Kill or Cure

“In a dystopian world ravaged by infection, society, as we know it, has fallen to the mouths of the dead. The remaining fragments of civilization survive in walled compounds, scattered in the depths of the countryside. When her little brother becomes sick with a suspected flu virus, Alyx Silverthorne will do anything to keep Tommy alive. With limited medical supplies and only herbal alternatives, his prospects of recovering from this mystery illness are bleak. But Alyx and her makeshift family are born survivors: it’s in their blood. When the unthinkable happens and Tommy suddenly takes a turn for the worse, the council of Merope becomes suspicious that he is infected, even though he has never left the safety of the compound. Little does she know, the infected are not the only monsters that exist in this new world, and human nature can be more destructive than the dead. In a race against time, Alyx and her best friend Will stop at nothing to protect him, even from the same people that swore to protect them all. Kill or Cure is a story of love, loss and adrenaline filled adventure. It will rip your heart out and leave you wanting more.”

I got an eARC of this other book. I haven’t read a dystopian novel in a long time and this one sounds intriguing.

4) In Her Mind

“Elke Sinclair doesn’t care to fall in love. And life for the 25-year old in Bondi Beach is as chilled as it sounds. Her days are filled with fun parties and good friends, while she soul searches for a career that she’s passionate about. But it only takes one person to change all of that. When Elke meets Lincoln, a dangerously sexy foreigner, she believes that he is her destiny and that the universe has sent him to her for a reason. As Elke falls madly in love, an unhealthy obsession for perfection begins, and it overtakes her friendships, her goals, and even her sanity! Will Elke find herself before it’s too late? Or will she remain the fool forever? IN HER MIND is a playful women’s fiction that follows Elke as she learns the harsh truth about love, life and most importantly, herself.”

This was the last eARC that I am reading for the month. This sounds sexy, fun, and a nice finding yourself story.

5) Shadow and Bone

“Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee. Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling. Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.”

Everyone talks so much about the Darkling and how I will love this villainous man so I thought it was time that I check this out.

6) Siege and Storm

Darkness never dies. Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long. The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.”

7) Ruin and Rising

The capital has fallen. The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne. Now the nation’s fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army. Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives. Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.”

8) Found in Night

Dragon Shifters. Undead. Revenge. Life has not been the same since the attack on the ship. Affected by the Druid’s power, something dark lurks within Hadrian Vulmar, threatening the existence of those around him. Following a lead, Zacriah and Nyah head into the forest on an expedition to cure him. When they are ambushed by the living dead—bodies controlled by shadow—covered in the Druid marks, they know the Druid did not perish in the sea as they first thought. The Druid is back, and with his return comes the threat of attack. The three known Dragori are sent on a dangerous quest to stop this dark magick before Hadrian gives into his new power, and the shadowbeings end more innocent lives.”

I loved Cloaked in Shadow a lot. It was fun and easy to read. So, I have no doubt book two will be just as exciting, wild, and romantic.

I can’t wait to read all these books and see what they are about. What are you reading this month?
