Before Peter Pan belonged to Wendy, he belonged to the girl with the crow feather in her hair… Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn’t believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell. Soon, she is risking everything—her family, her future—to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she’s always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter. With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers seem doomed. But it’s the arrival of Wendy Darling, an English girl who’s everything Tiger Lily is not, that leads Tiger Lily to discover that the most dangerous enemies can live inside even the most loyal and loving heart. From the New York Times, bestselling author of Peaches comes a magical and bewitching story of the romance between a fearless heroine and the boy who wouldn’t grow up.

overviewThe story of Tiger Lily really was a love story like no other I have read. I was utterly heartbroken and I really hate Peter and Wendy lol. I am going to do a shorter review today & lists because I have a busy day but wanted this review to go out. I enjoyed this story a lot and it was an interesting version of this story. I think the author really went out of the box with using Tink as the main voice considering she couldn’t actually speak. Seeing Tiger Lily & Peter’s love story unfold through Tink’s eyes was even more heartbreaking because she couldn’t do anything to stop the events from happening. I really liked the writing style but the story was kind of slow. It was interesting seeing how all the inhabitants of Neverland interacted. The love story was unique and something I never read but the ending left me shaken and incredibly sad for awhile. Pages 199-200 were so soft and I am mad and sad because I should’ve known it was too good to be true.

“He listened to more than her sounds, because Tiger Lily was a girl of few words. He listened with his eyes, watched facial expressions, judged body language, and therefore he read Tiger Lily better than anyone else.”

  • The writing style
  • Pine Sap!!!!! His love for Tiger Lily and the ending for him made me so happy
  • I love Pine Sap’s love for reading (WE ARE ONE)
  • When Peter noticed Tink and her growing fondness for him
  • Seeing more to Hook and Smee than we usually see. I liked learning about what Hook was feeling
  • Tink’s gift to read all the characters feelings and all she saw because it gave more insight into the overall plot
  • How soft Peter & Tiger Lily were (Page 133!!!!!) and how the romance was beautifully unfolding (until Wendy had to come along & Peter became an ass hat)
  • Peter being weak around Tiger Lily (page 154-155)
  • When Peter said “I love you so much, Tiger Lily” because I didn’t think he was capable
  • How I really actually related to Tiger Lily’s character of always wanting to be alone, how she loved Tik-Tok, how unconventionally pretty she was, her two crow feathers, how she was with the lost boys, how bad ass she was, I JUST LOVE TIGER LILY
  • How she hurt Peter & Wendy but her selfless little heart ended up helping them in the end even though the trash left
  • When Peter apologized on page 223
  • When the people I wanted gone became gone

  • It was a bit of a slow story
  • How the villagers treated Tiger Lily
  • How the boys would say underhanded or out right rude comments about Tiger Lily’s looks or non-feminine ways
  • What Giant did to Moon Eye honestly I wanted to go into the story and kill him myself
  • That Tiger Lily was being forced to marry trash like Giant and everyone turned an eye to his abuse even her dad
  • Philip and everyone from England that ruined Tiger Lily’s life
  • When Peter betrayed her thus proving why men are trash (lol jk)
  • That Peter and Tiger Lily were so bad at communication (page 244 paragraph 3)
  • That Tiger Lily ever felt bad about herself
  • Seeing Tink helpless in how things unfolded because she couldn’t speak and was so tiny but, she wanted to help so much
  • Did I mention Wendy?? And Peter?  And everyone who broke my girl Tiger Lily’s heart. So, Peter and Wendy
  • The letter at end (I said I loved it but I also hated it because NO PETER YOU BROKE HER HEART)

I will never read this again because it is so sad but everyone should read it lol join me in heartbreak. I just wish there was maybe more action to it the slow pace made it feel a bit dragged. If you read it, what did you think of the novel? What are some of your favorite Peter Pan retellings?

  1. I’ve seen this book around and I’ve been meaning to get it. Sounds really interesting, but I probably won’t want to read it until winter… I just can’t read heavy sad stories in the summer.
