First, let’s talk cinematography & aesthetic. This film was GORGEOUS. I am obsessed with Bollywood films that show Holi, old architecture, and just has so much of the culture everywhere. The sari and wrapped garments, the Mundum Neriyathdum, the Mekhela Sador, the Salwar Kameez, and all the other ethnic wear were gorgeous. The cinematography was breathtaking I posted some pictures of scenes that took my breath away. The colors and the richness were just captivating.

The story is based on Romeo & Juliet with a twist. You know a film is excellent and a plot is great when you still become invested in it and already know what will happen. We all know the story of R & J but I still found myself crying and clutching my pillow in anticipation. I couldn’t understand how I knew what the ending would be yet I still was wishing I MEAN WISHING that they would have the happily ever after. Ram & Leela were such a beautiful couple and Deepika and Ranveer did such a stunning performance. I felt all their emotions through the screen their love, their passion, their anger all of it I was feeling and wanted to reach into the screen and make the situation better. They had amazing chemistry on screen.

The music was also fantastic my favorite song was Nagada Sang Dhol the devotion in the lyrics were mesmerizing. My favorite thing about Bollywood music is how they say I love you in so many other ways without saying the words. They’re almost like wedding vows and I find myself drawn to them. I would dedicate these songs to my future husband over any other American song because they express something more than love. Besides the lyrics the production and the cinematography in each scene are breathtaking.

Lastly, besides Ram & Leela, I adored two other characters with all my heart because these women deserved everything. They were so strong and brave even with all they dealt with. Raseela and Kesar were amazing secondary characters.

It’s only four and a half stars because I am not a big fan of Romeo and Juliet retellings and that makes it a bit un-unique. Also, there were two characters I really disliked. This had nothing to do with the overall rating lol I just really wanted to fight them like every five seconds.

This rat!!!!!

So I hoped you liked this review and get a chance to one day watch it. It is extremely worth it!!!

  1. Try watching Padmavati of the same starcast and Shahid kapoor added to the list. If you like the old architecture and the ethnic costume and good cinematography then it is a good watch and its by the same director, and there is a beautiful dance sequence traditionally done up by deepika padukone. This movie had made quite a stir in India.Due to which the releasing title of the movie is Padmavat.
