Fairest of Them All (Male Characters)

Today I wanted to do something fun and talk about my favorite male characters in literature. Each is on this list for different reasons and besides the number one, the rest are in no particular order. I am a huge fan of stories in a males perspective and some of these I wish I got to read in their mind and voice but they still found their way into my heart. So without further ado here is the fairest of them all.

1- Khalid Ibn Al-Rashid (The Wrath and The Dawn Duology)

I can write a whole post on why he is my favorite character, but I will keep it short for the sake of rambling. From the moment his character graced the pages of my favorite book of all time I was entranced. His grace and poise, his fearless nature and fierce love for his kingdom were so beautiful. I knew the reasoning for what he did was far more than black and white. His undeniable love and proudness for Shazi were so beautiful. The wisest men stay silent and listen. He wasn’t just a king who acted he saw reason and acted accordingly. For such a young king he was exceptional.

My favorite quote- “My soul sees its equal in you”

2- Alagan Dhiren Rajaram {Ren} (Tiger’s Curse Series)

The 300-year-old Prince/Tiger. I immediately loved his character because of how chivalrous he was to Kelsey. The way he cared for her so effortlessly, that he was willing to do some unheard of stuff to protect her, was beautiful. How he made her feel so powerful and not like she needed him but he needed her made my heart swell. He had been through so much he deserved happiness and I was happy when he finally got it even if I was angry with how Kelsey handled some situations.

My favorite quote- “My ultimate despair was being without you. Am I without you still? Or do you belong to me as I belong to you? Do you still love me, priyatama?

3- Kell Maresh (A Darker Shade of Magic Trilogy)

The adopted Prince of Red London and one of the most powerful Antaris. I love this amazing Red head with one black eye and one blue. He deserves all the happiness and the things he goes through, as the trilogy progresses, breaks my heart. But I trust Victoria to always take care of him so I trusted her story. He is so selfless omg. It almost pains you how much he cares for the ones he loves. You want to wrap him up and protect him because he’s always doing it for others. He’s so strong willed, caring, and overprotective especially for his brother whose life he literally has in his hands. Why? BECAUSE SELFLESS KELL!

My favorite quote- “I did it knowing it would bind our lives, knowing what it would mean for me, what I would become, knowing that the resurrection of his life would mean the end of mine, and I did it anyway, because he is my brother and your son and the future king of Arnes.” Kell gasped for breath, tears streaming down his face “What more could I possibly do?”

4- Rhy Maresh (A Darker Shade of Magic Trilogy)

The Prince of Red London. One of the funniest characters I ever read. He’s so charismatic and joyful and when his joy is gone my heart breaks. He deserves to be loved because of the love he spreads especially towards his brother Kell. His love for his Kingdom and his people, that you see throughout the books, is beautiful. It was like watching a child grow into the man you want them to become. He will be a fantastic ruler because he doesn’t think with hate and isn’t fueled by hate.

My favorite quote- “Who needs magic when you look this good.”

5- Victor Vale (Vicious)

Cunning. Alluring. Painful. One of the most complex characters I’ve read. I LOVE his character. I found myself so intrigued by his mind and his way of thinking. I love that he never hid the darkness that he had lurking in his shadows. The most refreshing thing to see was a “non-normal” human in a story not question what they are or apologize for it. He was unapologetically him; flaws and all. No masks and no hiding the vengeance burning inside of him.

My favorite quote- “Did you know that when you take away a person’s fear of pain, you take away their fear of death? You make them, in their own eyes, immortal. Which of course they’re not, but what’s the saying? We are all immortal until proven otherwise?”

6- Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows Duology)

Kaz “Dirtyhands Bastard of the Barrel” Brekker, leader of the Dreggs and master thief with his sleight of hand skills but would fall apart at the sound of Inej’s laugh. His character is one of a kind truly. He is fiercely loyal to his team but he would probably never say it. He would do anything for Inej and I love that he has a woman as his second in command and she is the one he trusts most in the world. The things he has been through made him who he was but the way he takes care of his team without all the sentimental stuff still makes him one hell of a guy and antihero.

My favorite quote- “But I’m the one at your table, Geels, and I’m not here for a taste. You want a war, I’ll make sure you eat your fill.”

7- Noah Shaw (The Mara Dyer Trilogy)

Noah Shaw has a special ability and a special place in my heart. I love a story where the male character is incredibly loyal to the female character. Noah is super charismatic. He is deeply in love with Mara Dyer and the gentle way he handles her and protects her makes me swoon. He has not had an easy life but he also doesn’t let it affect his whole being. He is funny and kind and I am so excited to read his upcoming trilogy.

My favorite quote- “Je t’aime. Aujourd’hui. Ce soir. Demain. Pour toujours. Si je vivais mille ans, je t’appartiendrais pour tous. Si je vivais mille vies, je te ferais mienne dans chacune d’elles.”

Translation: I love you. Today. Tonight. Tomorrow. Forever. If I were to live a thousand years, I would belong to you for all of them. If I were to live a thousand lives, I would want to make you mine in each one.”

8- Percy Jackson (Percy Jackson Series)

THE MAIN HOMIE!!!! Seriously THE MOST loyal character I ever read about. I mean every other character humans, demigods, and gods alike always reminded my son that his fatal flaw was his loyalness to his friends. Percy cared about people so much and was literally a ball of JOY even after all the things they’ve faced. He was the most powerful demigod yet was such a humble guy. If you don’t love this character I honestly question everything about your integrity, personality, and character.

My favorite quote- “We’re staying together,” he promised. “You’re not getting away from me. Never again.”

9- Nico Di’Angelo (Percy Jackson Series)

Demigod, son of Hades, and known in the Underworld as the “Ghost King”. Nico starts out as a really happy go lucky kid who admires Percy Jackson a lot. As the series goes on his demeanor changes and he becomes dark embracing who he really is. He is resentful, angry, and feels like he doesn’t belong. One of the people he cares most about is his sister Bianca and it is proven he would do whatever he can to show that.  He is very brave and bold. In fact, the only time Nico is ever shown to be terrified is when he had to face Cupid, implying that Nico’s greatest fear is exposing his love for Percy. He is such a lovely character and I would love to read a whole book just about him.

My favorite quote- “No,’ Nico said. ‘Getting a second life is one thing. Making it a better life, that’s the trick.’ As soon as he said it, Nico realized he could’ve been talking about himself. He decided not to bring that up.”

10- Anubis (Kane Chronicles)

The Egyptian god of death and funerals. He is in a good mood every eon or so and can be moody. When he is with Sadie this is, of course, an exception and he falls in love with her which is beautiful. He tends to be flustered when he speaks without thinking. He is 5000 years old but himself and other characters claim he is young and a child in gods standards. He has graced this list because with the few moments we saw of him he was incredibly sweet, loyal, protective, and did so much for Sadie.

My favorite quote- “I’m sorry I can’t do more. But happy birthday, Sadie.”
He leaned forward and kissed me on the lips.”

So that wraps up my list of favorite male characters that I have read about. Hope you all enjoyed 🙂
