Happy Quick Lit Day! The awesome books seem abundant this summer. Or I am having the great luck of picking mostly winners. Either way, summer is here and the reading is easy.
Here are a few that I have read over the last month.
One day Richard Middlestein wakes up and can’t take it anymore, he leaves his wife, Edie, who has been slowly killing herself with food. Their children jump in to pick up the pieces, and grapple with the question if Edie’s food obsession is somehow their fault. Quirky, funny and heartbreaking.
In the early days of WWI the luxury cruse-liner, Lusitania, leaves the port of New York bound for Ireland. What they don’t completely understand at the time, or completely ignore, depending on how you look at it, is that the Germans are gunning for them. Larson weave the story of the Lusitania and it’s passengers and the leader and crew of the German U-boat that torpedoes them off the coast of Liverpool. Fascinating and Compelling.
On a suggestion from Anne, I picked up this up for a little decorating inspiration. I am in the seeming perpetual state of fixing up our 100 year old fixer-uper. While to book and the title suggests that it focuses on making your house both adult and kiddie friendly, the ideas are fun and practical. It’s not just for moms, people!
Madeline is just your everyday 9 year old with a dream to be a Jazz singer. Sabrina is a divorced teacher who happens across her old flame. Lorca owns a club that is one more fine away from closing. They all converge at, you guessed it, The Cat’s Pajamas. Funny, Quirky and hopeful.
What have you been reading lately?
I am linking up over at Modern Mrs Darcy. Head on over there and see what everyone else has been reading.
