When Tina took to job working as an assistant to media mogul Robert Barlow she thought it would be a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Or at the very least, move her toward using her English degree. Six years later she is still ordering sandwiches and picking up dry cleaning.
After a billing snafu leaves her with a check that would pay off the rest of her student loan and make her life easier she (after stewing over it) deposits the check and pays off her debt. And then another assistant wants her helps (via blackmail!) and then another, and then another until she becomes Robin Hood. Funneling money through fake expense reports to give assistants the cash they need to pay off their bills.
This can’t go on forever, of course, and that is where the humor sets in. How long can this go on? Are they going to go to jail? What is going to happen with Tina’s cute new boyfriend who also happens to be a lawyer at the place she is steeling money from?
If is a wonderful RomCom-like story (with a touch of class war social justice) that is perfect for a summer day.
Tina Fontana is the hapless but brazen thirty-year-old executive assistant to Robert Barlow, the all-powerful and commanding CEO of Titan Corp., a multinational media conglomerate. She’s excellent at her job and beloved by her famous boss—but after six years of making his reservations for restaurants she’d never get into on her own and pouring his drinks from bottles that cost more than her rent, she’s bored, broke, and just a bit over it all.
When a technical error with Robert’s travel-and-expenses report presents Tina with the opportunity to pay off the entire balance of her student loan debt with what would essentially be pocket change for her boss, she struggles with the decision: She’s always played by the rules. But it’s such a relatively small amount of money for the Titan Corporation—and for her it would be a life-changer . . .
