I am a newbie in the world of comics. A baby really. I have read a total of 3, this one being my 4th and this one is a gem.
Katie is a chef and she is stuck in limbo. She helped the owners of Seconds get it off the ground and become a town favorite, but when it comes right down to it, this success is not hers. Her name isn’t on the deed. So she decided to open her own place. She has it all planned out, right down to the quirky chandler for the dining room. The thing that is slowing her down this her perfect place needs work, A LOT of work. On top of that, even though she is not technically working at Seconds anymore, she lives in the attic apartment of the restaurant and she is getting on everyone’s nerves.
After a nasty accident that leaves a waitress with grease burns and a surprise visit from an ex, Katie received a visit from the house spirt Lis. She gives he a mushroom and instructions on how the fix her mistake, so she can be cool and collected around her ex and save the waitress from the painful burns. When fixing the mistake works out swimmingly Katie starts to think of all the other mistakes she could fix . . . . and we are off and rolling.
The artwork is beautiful and the story is charming. At it’s heart it is a good reminder to not live in the past and let your past stay in the past.
Katie’s got it pretty good. She’s a talented young chef, she runs a successful restaurant, and she has big plans to open an even better one. Then, all at once, progress on the new location bogs down, her charming ex-boyfriend pops up, her fling with another chef goes sour, and her best waitress gets badly hurt. And just like that, Katie’s life goes from pretty good to not so much. What she needs is a second chance. Everybody deserves one, after all—but they don’t come easy. Luckily for Katie, a mysterious girl appears in the middle of the night with simple instructions for a do-it-yourself do-over:
1. Write your mistake
2. Ingest one mushroom
3. Go to sleep
4. Wake anew
And just like that, all the bad stuff never happened, and Katie is given another chance to get things right. She’s also got a dresser drawer full of magical mushrooms—and an irresistible urge to make her life not just good, but perfect. Too bad it’s against the rules. But Katie doesn’t care about the rules—and she’s about to discover the unintended consequences of the best intentions.
