This year I read/listened to more books that I ever have. By quite a wide margin. This means, of course, that I have come across new-to-me authors all over the place. A few of these ‘new’ authors had me wondering where they had been all my life and wondering how I missed out on all of their awesomeness.
This was the year that I read Ready Player One, or to be more specific, the year the Wil Wheaton read Ready Player One to me. While Cline has only two books under his belt this opened up a world of fun, nerdy books for me. He will always have a special spot in my heart.
I wish AS King was writing books when I was a teen. She just gets it. All of the angst and awkwardness that comes from being in that inbetween stage. Then she wraps the story is something crazy like being a child reality show star or seeing the future after drinking bat dust.
Brian K Vaughan
It feels like I have been reading comics for years, but in reality I checked out my first one last summer. Saga is all over everyone’s ‘You Must Read These Comics’ lists and Space Opera – Hello! I am glad to have Brian in my life.
In the months leading up to Fates and Furies’s release, it seemed like everyone on the bookish internet was talking about it. I enjoyed the book and found it’s structure fascinating. Then I heard that her first book was either just as good or better, depending on who you ask.
I remember vaguely hearing about The Winter People on one of those creepy reads lists that surface around Halloween every year. It showed up on the Daily Deal for Audible, so I figured it was meant to be. And boy was it ever! Every time I am craving being creeped out, and I am one of those strange people that do, I know I can count on Jennifer’s stories.
What awesome new authors have you found this year?
